Saga to Receive ¥10 Billion for Stationing Ospreys

Saga Prefecture has accepted a plan of the Ministry of Defense to deploy Ospreys to a local airport. The central government will pay the prefecture ¥10 billion over 20 years (¥500 million annually) in landing fees. Part of the money will be utilized to help support local fishermen. A foundation will also be set up to promote the industry. The airport that will be used was originally constructed as a commercial facility. Negotiations are set to continue with members of the fishery cooperative and local landowners over the possibility of constructing a stationing post for the aircrafts.
