In this tour we’ll introduce you to many of Chikugo’s specialty products such as Kurume kasuri (woven textile), Yame tea, and Buddhist altars. We’ll visit a beautiful temple with a picturesque garden and a factory producing hanten, a traditional Japanese garment. For lunch, we’ll enjoy dishes made with Yame’s seasonal ingredients!

Honbo Garden at Kiyomizu Temple


This historical spot features a temple and garden famous for its scenic beauty. A monk will give us a tour of the temple grounds and the garden.

Yame Traditional Crafts Center


This modern center showcases many of Yame’s local products such as elaborate Buddhist altars and delicately hand-painted Yame paper lanterns.

Hanten Workshop and Fitting


Hanten is a traditional Japanese garment worn during the colder months. At this factory we’ll discover why they are so warm!

Yame Tea Experience


Yame tea is one of Japan’s premium brands. At this tea specialty shop we’ll learn how to make and enjoy delicious Yame tea the correct way! There will be time to shop for tea and sweets too.

Kurume Kasuri Shop


Browse or shop for Kurume kasuri cloth and a wide variety of kasuri items including garments and everyday accessories. You can’t find these everywhere!

8:45 Depart by chartered bus from Tenjin (in front of the Bank of Japan) *meeting subject to change
10:00~10:40 Honbo Garden at Kiyomizu Temple
11:10~11:30 Shopping (Michi no eki Miyama)
12:00~13:00 Lunch (Ginnoka)
13:15~13:55 Yame Traditional Crafts Center
14:20~15:20 Hanten Workshop and Fitting
15:45~16:25 Yame Tea Experience
16:35~16:55 Kurume Kasuri Shop
18:00 Return to Tenjin (in front of Bank of Japan)

Participation fee: ¥2,300/person and includes lunch, entry to all venues and travel insurance.

Why so inexpensive?
The cost of this tour has been drastically reduced, in return for cooperation by tour participants with a short written survey to be conducted on the bus on the way back to Tenjin. Information gathered will be used by tourism related offices to promote the areas visited on this tour in the future. The surveys are anonymous. Note: photos from the tour may appear on the Fukuoka Now website, SNS and elsewhere. The ¥2,300 participation fee only covers the cost of the lunch, entrance fees and workshop fees. Transportation, the guide and other parts are included in the participation fee, so this is a great value.
