Week-long Event at Shofukuji Temple

START: Oct 1, 2017 END: Oct 7, 2017

Shofukuji Temple is a popular tourist destination in Fukuoka frequently referred to as the first Zen temple in Japan. One of the temple’s most famous former abbots is the Edo period monk Sengai, who was well known for his charming, kawaii paintings and illustrations. To mark the anniversary of Sengai’s passing on October 7, 1837, Shofukuji is hosting a series of special events this Autumn, including special viewings of the temple’s most prized possessions, open air tea ceremonies, and sutra transcriptions.
