In FY2015, 353 companies in Fukuoka were awarded manufacturing subsidies by the national government, placing it fourth in the nation. The subsidy, which targets small and medium-sized enterprises (SMEs), covers two-thirds of the development cost for innovative services or prototypes. Selected companies can receive a maximum of ¥30 million. To provide a one-stop shop for public and private-sector support for SMEs, the Prefecture has established the SME Support Council and the Fukuoka Prefecture Small and Medium Manufacturer Promotion Committee, both of whose members include representatives from SMEs.
