The prefectures of Fukuoka, Oita, and Saga in Kyushu together with Yamaguchi Prefecture began offering multilingual phone-based interpretation service for international visitors. The joint service began on April 2 and aims to provide a more cost-effective call center for sharing tourist information effectively. The system will be used to help in welcoming visitors during the 2019 Rugby World Cup and 2020 Tokyo Olympics. Interpretation is available in 15 languages (English, simplified and traditional Chinese, Korean, Vietnamese, Thai, Indonesian, Portuguese, French, Spanish, Russian, German, Italian, Nepalese, Tagalog, and Malay) and is available 24 hours a day, 365 days a year.
