Series on Immigration in Kyushu Wins Award

Waseda University announced the top three grand prize winners of the Ishibashi Tanzan Memorial Journalism Award. The Grass Roots Democracy category went to the Nishinippon Shimbun “New Era of Immigration” series, which investigated the conditions of international workers in Fukuoka and Kyushu. Selected articles from the series were translated and featured on the Fukuoka Now website this year. The NHK special “The Death of a Civilian Police Officer” won the Public Service section, while photojournalist Noriko Hayashi’s work “The Prayer of the Yazidis” won the Cultural Contribution category.
