Tsushima Added to JR Kyushu Beetle Ferry Route

The JR Kyushu Jet Ferry announced that their high speed Beetle (hydrofoil) service will open a new route on July 23 that will run between Fukuoka and Busan via Hitakatsu Port on Tsushima Island. The journey from Hakata to Tsushima will take just two hours and ten minutes, which is more than twice as fast as current services. The fare for this section of the service is expected to be ¥8,820 (adult). Tsushima residents are likely to be eligible to purchase tickets at the discounted rate of ¥4,800. There has been an increase in Korean tourists travelling to Tsushima using high speed boat services. However, the number of visitors from Japan has stagnated in recent times. The new route aims to address both of these trends. The Mayor of Tsushima City discussed the news at a press conference and stated that he hopes the service will bring in new tourism to the area.
