The Sanyo Shinkansen marks its 50th anniversary this year, and a special exhibit highlighting its history through maps is being held at the Zenrin Museum in Kitakyushu. The exhibit features 30 items, including maps and documents, tracing the development of the line from its beginnings.
Visitors can view maps from 1972, showing the line as a “planned route” west of Okayama before its full opening, as well as documents related to the relocation of Kokura Station in 1958 to accommodate Shinkansen construction. The exhibition will run through May 25, allowing attendees to explore how the high-speed rail transformed travel in the region. Source: NHK / Zenrin Museum
