One of Japan’s largest Bordeaux wine events began as part of the sister-city exchange between Fukuoka and Bordeaux, France. Celebrating its 10th edition, the festival brings more than 100 varieties of Bordeaux wine to Fureai Hiroba in front of Fukuoka City Hall, where visitors can casually compare wines by the glass.
Wine glasses are available through a deposit system: visitors pay a ¥500 deposit when purchasing wine and receive a refund upon returning the glass. Food and drinks can be purchased directly from each booth.
Food menus designed to pair with wine include wagyu steak, beef cheek stewed in Bordeaux wine, game dishes, kiln-fired pizza, and truffle specialties. Limited-edition dishes from popular Fukuoka restaurants will also be available. Live performances take place nightly, featuring soprano singers, pianists, and other artists performing classical music, jazz, French pop, and more.
