Now in its 14th year, this festival gives visitors the opportunity to learn about the history of coal mining in Tagawa. Tagawa was the home of the Miike Mine, which is referred to in the famous Japanese folk song Tanko Bushi. During the festival, two huge coal mine chimneys will be lit up after the sun goes down. On the first night, don’t miss the spectacular sight of sky lanterns released into the sky as well as the “Tagawa Balloon Light Up” and candle light up on the first night. The festival highlight is the huge performance of Tanko Bushi amidst the surroundings that are described in the lyrics, held on the second day.
