START: Oct 9, 2021 END: Oct 10, 2021

Kurume Kasuri is a designated important intangible cultural asset of Japan, and the Chikugo area in Fukuoka Prefecture is a major producing area of this textile. Once a year, Kurume kasuri studios open their doors to the public. On this particular occasion, you can take a closer look at how the artisans practice their craft. Try your hand at weaving or dyeing fabric in the characteristic indigo hue. Browse for textiles, accessories, and men’s and women’s clothes at bargain prices too. The idyllic countryside is dotted with studios, and it is fun to stroll around using a rental bicycle. Light meals using local ingredients will also be on offer, so you can enjoy exploring Chikugo Village Kasuri Open House all day long!
