Now in its 62nd year, the Kurume Azalea Festival is said to be one of Japan’s three biggest plant fairs (the other two are held in Kumamoto and Tochigi prefectures). Admire 150 varieties of 300,000 azalea (tsutsuji in Japanese) on display as well as a model garden and bonsai exhibitions. Browse the flower, plant and bonsai markets, join lectures on plants, or ask advice from plant specialists. There will also be special taiko drum performances on weekends and holidays (canceled in case of rain). Local Kurume food and drink on offer too.
