It’s Amaou season, which means the city’s gone strawberry-crazy! From Feb. 27 to Mar. 13, Amaou strawberries will be found in cafes and restaurants throughout the city as part of the Amaou Festival. But on Feb. 27 and 28, there will be a special event to kick off the festival! Not only will there be plenty of juicy Amaou strawberries, but other Fukuoka-brand foods will be exhibited and sold at the event (and available for tasting!), such as Genki Tsukushi (rice), Hakata Wagyu (beef), Yame Tea (tea), Fukuoka Nori (seaweed) and oysters. There will be an eat-in section, Fukuoka Cafe de Marche, as well as stage events (including a fashion show, as well as dance and musical performances). You can also opt to take one of their workshops (¥200 per person; 15 people max. per class; first-come, first-served) – such as a matcha latte art on Feb. 27 (13:30~, 14:00~), a class on making onigirazu (rice sandwiches) on Feb. 28 (12:00~, 12:30~, 15:00~, 15:30~), and an ichigo daifuku-making class on both days (2/27 (Sat.): 11:30~, 12:00~, 15:00~, 15:30~; 2/28 (Sun.): 10:00~, 10:30~, 13:30~, 14:00~). Plus, the first 200 guests receive a free Amaou strawberry!
