Art Fair Asia Fukuoka (AFAF), one of the largest contemporary art fairs in Kyushu, returns for its milestone 10th edition. What began as a grassroots event held in hotel rooms has grown into a major international fair drawing top galleries from Japan and abroad.
Last year’s edition featured 98 galleries and organizations and welcomed over 10,000 visitors. This year, more than 100 booths will be exhibited at one of Japan’s largest venues in terms of floor space, promising the fair’s most expansive scale to date.
Centered around the “Galleries” section—which brings together leading commercial galleries from Japan and overseas—the fair also includes several thematic sections. “Collaboration” highlights partnerships with corporations and educational institutions, blending diverse perspectives and creative approaches. Two new sections debut this year: “Moment,” dedicated to performance and live art, and “Infinity,” focused on large-scale installations.
Other features include “Leading ASIA,” a curated section showcasing key artists shaping the Asian contemporary art scene, and a juried exhibition designed to discover and support emerging artists. The three-day event continues to expand its role as a vital platform connecting the art worlds of Asia and Japan.
