Art Fair Asia Fukuoka 2026
~

ART FAIR ASIA FUKUOKA returns to Fukuoka Kokusai Center this October, bringing together one of Japan’s largest art fairs dedicated to connecting the Japanese and Asian art markets. Marking its 11th edition, the three-day event features galleries and artists from Japan and abroad, offering opportunities to view, discuss, and purchase contemporary artworks. A VIP Preview will be held on Oct. 1, 13:00–19:00, ahead of the public opening.

This year’s Featured Artists are Cambodian artist Khvay Samnang and Kumamoto-based artist Hanako Miyamoto. Through photography, video, and performance, Khvay Samnang explores themes of landscape, history, and society, and has exhibited at multiple editions of the international contemporary art exhibition documenta. Miyamoto, recipient of the Grand Prize at VOCA 2025, creates immersive installations combining painting and video to examine ideas of home, family, and human connection. Together, their work offers a compelling snapshot of contemporary artistic expression from Asia and Fukuoka.

In 2026, the fair extends beyond its main venue into Hakata. Sumiyoshi Shrine will present contemporary artworks within its historic grounds, while the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum will host a group exhibition featuring participating galleries. The expanded program invites visitors to discover contemporary art while exploring the streets of Hakata.

Tip: Allow extra time to visit the satellite exhibitions at Sumiyoshi Shrine and the Fukuoka Asian Art Museum for a broader perspective on the fair and Fukuoka’s contemporary art scene.
