This annual sand sculpture event takes place in Ashiya, a coastal town in northern Fukuoka Prefecture. Attracting over 60,000 visitors each year, including families and couples, this international event features professional sand sculptors from Japan and abroad. The theme this year is “Dinosaur,” with 28 sand sculptures created using only white sand and water. The event is popular both during the day and after sunset when the sculptures are illuminated in a magical light. On weekdays, sound and light shows are held at 7 p.m. and 8 p.m., and on weekends and holidays, fireworks follow the 8 p.m. show.
