The Atago Shrine in Fukuoka, known as a power spot, hosts its major year-end ritual, the Dai-saito Goma-ku Firewalking Ceremony. Participants write their wishes on goma (wooden prayer) sticks and throw them into the sacred fire. Walking barefoot over the blazing embers is believed to ward off misfortunes and purify the body and soul. This significant ceremony at Atago Shrine marks the transition into the New Year, offering a vital opportunity for participants to cleanse their minds and bodies for the upcoming year. The event is open to everyone, allowing anyone to partake in this unique and spiritual experience on the day of the ceremony.
