For the first time in five years, Avispa are back in the J1 League, Japan’s top level soccer league! Not only was it a tough road getting to J1, but the league itself seems to be jinxed: for the past three years, every team which qualified to enter J1 (by virtue of other teams’ losses) has fallen straight back down to J2 League the next year. Avispa are determined to beat this jinx! Their season will be divided into two stages (Feb. ~ June, July ~ Nov.), and their first home game is against Yokohama F Marinos. This match will come hot on the heels of their first away game, which will be against Sagan Tosu, Avispa’s biggest rivals. Avispa are predicted to maintain their strategy of high pressure defence this season – here’s hoping it helps keep them in J1! Go support Avispa for their first match on home turf!
