This large-scale exhibition explores the world of Black Jack, the legendary manga by Osamu Tezuka—manga artist, animation pioneer, and licensed physician who developed a deep appreciation for the value of life through his wartime experiences. On display are more than 500 original manuscripts, rare materials reflecting Tezuka’s creative drive, and testimony videos revealing how Black Jack came to life. The exhibition also includes over 200 story lines from its original run in Weekly Shonen Champion, along with works influenced by the social and cultural events of the Showa era when the series was created.
As the most comprehensive Black Jack exhibition to date, it also explores Tezuka’s bold decision to publish a medical-themed manga in a boys’ magazine over 50 years ago—an unconventional move that helped cement his legacy.
