Blueblut Japan Tour (Fukuoka)

START: May 6, 2015 END: May 6, 2015

Futuristic jazz-pop band Blueblut to play Fukuoka for the first time. We’re just going to say it: not enough bands feature a theremin. The avant-garde jazz-pop trio Blueblut prides itself on the variety of instruments they use in their music; from the garden variety types, such as drums and guitar, to broken wind-up toys. The best-known artist of this band, Pamelia Kurstin, is the world’s premier theremin player, and has performed with big names like Yoko Ono and David Byrne. (If you don’t know what a theremin is, it’s an instrument that allows an artist to produce a sci-fi sound by plucking thin air.) She’s joined by the equally promising drummer Mark Holub, whose previous band was nominated for a Mercury Prize, and guitarist Chris Janka, who has also masterminded the production of the album. Jyurin, a band gaining increasing popularity in this city, will be opening for the Viennese trio’s first performance in Fukuoka, so this promises to be a night of musical mirth, talent and innovation. A must see.
