“Folk implements” are tools made from natural materials found in daily life and have been used for everyday purposes. Among these, items recognized for their beauty are known as “Mingei” (democratic crafts). This exhibition showcases a selection of folk implements from the Fukuoka City Museum’s collection. In a time when most traditional tools have been replaced by mass-produced items, the display offers a rare glimpse into tools infused with practical wisdom, such as patched workwear, baskets for catching river crabs, and unglazed clay heaters for warming hands and feet. A must-see for those interested in the ingenuity of daily life in the past.
