Launched in 2012 with the aim of revitalizing the local community, the “Gekkasai” centers around the annual festivals of six shrines in the Tenjin area—Kego Shrine, Wakamiya Shrine, Kogarasu Shrine, Kotohira Shrine, Sugawara Shrine, and Sakuragamine Shrine. The festivities feature a “Tenjin Parade” where five groups, including one themed on the Kaguya-hime legend, march through the streets. The parade is accompanied by a lavish “Mikoshi Procession,” inspired by the Kaguya-hime myth, that winds its way through the Tenjin district. On the 28th and 29th, the Kego Shrine will also host a “Fuku Marché,” adding an extra layer of enjoyment to the celebration. Don’t miss this captivating festival that brings myth, tradition, and community together in a vibrant display!
