Hakata Gion Yamakasa is a traditional festival that announces the arrival of summer. Starting from July 1st, various events related to the Hakata Gion Yamakasa will take place across the Hakata district, infusing the city with a festive atmosphere. During the festival, beautifully decorated Kazariyama (ornamental Yamakasa) crafted by Hakata doll makers will be displayed at 14 different locations, while Yamakasa carrying floats will be positioned at 7 locations. The festival reaches its peak with the Oiyamakasa event, which commences at 4:59 a.m. on the 15th. Following a solemn ceremony, floats will depart from the Kushida Shrine every five minutes. The spectacle of these floats coursing through the Hakata streets, accompanied by vibrant shouts, offers a compelling, powerful experience.
