The Fukuoka City Museum’s National Treasure, the Heshikiri Hasebe, is showcased every January. This renowned sword was presented to Kuroda Kanbei by Oda Nobunaga during their meeting. Kanbei, who established the 520,000-koku Fukuoka Domain, cherished it as a family heirloom before it was later donated to Fukuoka City. Crafted by the esteemed swordsmith Hasebe Kunishige, the blade is celebrated not only for its exquisite beauty but also for its legendary sharpness—reputedly able to cut without being swung, inspiring its name. This extraordinary masterpiece is a must-see for art and craftsmanship enthusiasts.
