Kiteboarding is an exciting marine sport combining using boards and sails to skim across waters at high speeds. In this event, kiteboarders will compete along the coast surrounding the Sacred Island of Okinoshima and Associated Sites. This will be the first official International Kiteboarding Association (IKA) Kiteboard Championship in Japan. There will be a speed race around buoys, a freestyle competition in which participants will show off figure skating-like moves, and a big air hang time competition which will measure the height of the jump and how long the participant hangs in the air. While going against the wind, the kites can jump upwards of 10 m in the air. Fascinating to watch!
