Japanese Cultural Experience Program

START: Jul 14, 2023 END: Aug 11, 2023

During the period of the World Aquatics Championships, a variety of events offering the opportunity to experience Japanese culture will be held throughout Fukuoka City. As you enter from the Welcome Gate located on the west side of the Fukuoka International Convention Center, you’ll find an area lined with bamboo stalls. Here, English-speaking staff will introduce various Japanese cultural experiences taking place throughout the city and provide free support for reservations.

For instance, opportunities include ‘Kimono Experience’, where you can stroll around town dressed in a kimono, ‘Ninja Experience’, where you can try your hand at shuriken throwing and stage combat, and ‘Japanese Drum Experience’, where you can play a traditional Japanese drum. You can also create goods from Fukuoka’s traditional crafts in the ‘Hakata-ori Suzu Box Making’ and ‘Okawa Kumiko Coaster Making’. Experiences involving rickshaws, Japanese cuisine, Japanese tea, and calligraphy are also available. There are also mini-experiences offered on a daily rotation that can be enjoyed on the spot, so feel free to ask.

Additionally, we offer a complimentary serving (limited quantity) of Yame tea, a green tea produced in Fukuoka Prefecture, known as one of the finest teas in Japan for free. A certified Japanese tea instructor, winner of the Green Tea Japan Grand Prix, will be preparing the Yame tea to delight your taste buds. Enjoy the sweet, rich, and umami-packed flavor of Fukuoka’s own Yame tea.
