Celebrating its 25th anniversary, Hakataza Theater presents the annual June Grand Kabuki performance, featuring a stellar lineup of both veteran and young actors. This luxurious program offers a full array of kabuki delights, from new kabuki to classic dance dramas, delicate Kamigata style performances, and the masterpiece ghost story “Tokaido Yotsuya Kaidan.” The matinee includes “Shuzenji Monogatari,” depicting the unique emotions of an artist and the sorrow of an ill-fated shogun; “Migawari Zazen,” a humorous portrayal of a husband wanting to cheat and a jealous wife; and “Koibikyaku Yamato Orai: Ninokuchi-mura,” a representative Kamigata love story about the tragic escape of lovers. The evening performance features the ghost play “Tokaido Yotsuya Kaidan,” which vividly portrays human follies. Limited single-act tickets, known as “Hitomakumiken,” will be available from 10 AM on the day of the performance at the Hakataza ticket booth.
