Ahead of the “June Hakataza Grand Kabuki” at Hakataza Theatre, this traditional pre-event known as Funanorikomi sees cast members arrive by boat. A seasonal early-summer spectacle, it ceremonially marks the actors’ arrival in Hakata and has long been a local favorite.
On the day, boats depart from around Seiryu Park and proceed slowly along the Hakata River. Kabuki actors and Hakata geisha ride on board, accompanied by festive music, cheers, and showers of confetti, creating a lively parade atmosphere. The procession can be viewed up close from along the river, with embarkation, disembarkation, and stage greetings taking place at multiple points, including Canal City Hakata and the Kawabata area. Drawing large crowds each year, it offers an early glimpse of the kabuki performances to come.
