Kawawatari Jinkosai Festival

START: May 20, 2023 END: May 21, 2023

The 470-year-old festival, recognized as a Fukuoka intangible folk cultural asset, is set to take place after a four-year hiatus. In this vibrant celebration, 60 men pull a large mikoshi (portable shrine) across the Hikosan River, accompanied by 11 extravagantly decorated floats. On Saturday evening, festival-goers can indulge in food and drinks along the riverbank, admiring the illuminated floats before they make their return journey across the river on Sunday. To facilitate easy access to the festival, a complimentary shuttle bus service will operate every 15 minutes on the event day. The shuttle will run between Tagawa City Hall and the Hikosan River area, with the Tagawa Information Center serving as the hub for the service. Join us for this time-honored festival and immerse yourself in a unique cultural experience.
