This 450-year-old river-crossing festival is one of Fukuoka’s five major festivals. Around 11 large mikoshi (portable shrines) are carried from Fuuji Shrine across the Hikosan River on the 21st (the largest requires 60 men!). They are illuminated overnight, and then taken back across the river on the 22nd.
