Kurume, widely known as a leading azalea-producing region, hosts this annual plant fair, one of Japan’s three major horticultural festivals. Held at a special venue within the Kurume Ryokka Center, south of Michi-no-Eki Kurume, the event attracts thousands of visitors and features around 1 million plants across 30,000 varieties, including Kurume azaleas, garden trees, seedlings, and seasonal flowers. Visitors can also consult directly with growers when selecting plants.
At the Kurume Azalea Center, dedicated to preserving and cultivating azaleas from around the world, a spring public opening runs from Apr 10–26. Approximately 10,000 azaleas representing around 1,000 varieties from Japan and overseas are on display.
