This autumn exhibition presents tools of the trade and everyday household items donated by old Hakata merchant families. The collection traces the history of Hakata as a town shaped by commerce and exchange with the Asian continent.
Materials preserved by these merchant houses offer a glimpse into the work, daily life, and distinctive local culture of Hakata in earlier times.
