Throughout the entire month of August, the Mitsubishi-Jisho Artium will host an exhibition introducing the world of picture books through Mitsumasa Anno’s works! Originally an elementary school teacher, Mitsumasa Anno, who turned 90 this year, is an acclaimed illustrator and writer of children’s books. Although his works are best known for their near-absence of words, Mitsumasa Anno’s past experience with children is reflected in his art; a lot of his works are based on educational themes such as letters from the Japanese alphabet and math. He has also received several prestigious awards, such as the highly reputable Hans Christian Andersen Medal in 1984. His playful yet educational pieces make for an exhibition enjoyable for all ages, so don’t hesitate to bring the whole family!
