MLBx, a new three-on-three baseball format combining the power of a home run derby with baseball’s tactical play, makes its Japan debut in Fukuoka. Four teams compete for points by hitting home runs, while fielders can also score by making catches in the outfield. Big hitting, defence and teamwork all help determine the outcome, with fast-paced games offering a different rhythm from conventional baseball.
The lineup features former MLB and NPB players Kazuo Matsui Akinori Iwamura, Daisuke Matsuzaka, Adam Jones, Jonny Gomes, Dae-Ho Lee, Wladimir Balentien, and Kenshi Sugiya. Live music and fan participation activities are also planned, extending the experience beyond the games. The result is a blend of sport and entertainment with the flavour of MLB, the world’s premier professional baseball league.
