The annual omikoshi parade and oshioi-tori are held on the evening of July 13 at the Suga Shrine in Shima-nogita, Itoshima City. The origin of this festival is said to date back about 400 years to the shrine’s founding, and it is held to pray for a bountiful harvest, family safety, and summer health in the region. Young men parade from Suga Shrine to Nogita Beach, 500m away from the shrine, where the torii stands, with red and blue costumed lions waving and shouting valiantly in their shimekomi costumes.
