Reflected on the water by the gently flickering light of about 1,000 lanterns, shrine maidens dance and perform musical acts on a specially constructed floating stage. This is the culmination of Jinkoshiki, a Shinto festival to bring peace and prosperity, and an Intangible Folk Cultural Property of Fukuoka.
