The seasonal presentation of a giant ‘otafuku’ gate at Kushida Shrine’s entrance in Fukuoka City celebrates its sixtieth year anniversary this year. The smiling face of the Otafuku lady is believed to bring luck to the visitors who walked through her mouth around setsubun (beginning of spring) day in Japan. On February 3, Setsubun ritual will be held between 10:00 to 16:00, with the New Year’s man and woman throwing beans from a special stage. The otafuku gate will be set up until February 15 for the purpose of dispersed worship.
