START: Feb 2, 2023 END: Feb 3, 2023

The Setsubun Festival at Tochoji Temple, said to be the oldest Setsubun festival in Fukuoka, is held every hour to pray for good fortune and good luck. Every hour, and beans, rice cakes, mandarin oranges, sweets, etc. are thrown with the call of “Fuku wa Uchi! Oni wa Soto!” On February 3, the Shichifukujin (Seven Gods of Good Fortune) join the festival. Many people can be seen picking up the goods scattered about, hoping to be blessed with good fortune for the coming year.
