SICF (Spiral Independent Creators Festival, an art festival established in 2000 by Tokyo’s Spiral art center to discover, nurture, and support emerging artists, comes to Kyushu for the first time. The inaugural Kyushu edition will be held at ONE FUKUOKA BLDG., the landmark mixed-use complex that opened in Tenjin in 2025.
Sixty emerging creators selected through an open call will participate, with the festival divided into two exhibition periods (A and B), each showcasing the work of 30 artists. The diverse lineup spans painting, sculpture and installation, photography, illustration, fashion, crafts, product design, and performance. Throughout the event, participating artists will be on site to introduce their work and discuss the concepts and creative processes behind it.
Approximately 40% of the exhibitors are based in Kyushu, joined by artists from across Japan as well as China and South Korea. A juror from Taiwan will take part in the selection process, and the award winners will be announced at a ceremony on Sep. 21. Bringing together emerging talent from across Asia, the four-day festival reflects Fukuoka’s growing role as a gateway for creative exchange.
Tip: If your schedule allows, visit both the A and B exhibition periods to experience the full lineup of 60 artists, and take the opportunity to meet the creators in person.
