Named for the characters meaning “good to live in,” Sumiyoshi is now home to a diverse community in houses, apartments, and condominiums. Started by local volunteers, this festival brings everyone together at Sumiyoshi Shrine, a long-standing place of welcome. Local eateries serve festival fare, while artists and performers with ties to Sumiyoshi provide entertainment. Spend a relaxed final afternoon of summer in the shrine’s tree-shaded grounds.
