236 items have been designated traditional craft products by Japan’s Ministry of Economic, Trade, and Industry. An exhibition featuring items that appear on the list, which craftswomen have created, is set to take place for the 24th time. This year’s event shines a spotlight on 24 women and will see 19 kinds of crafts go on display. Visitors can expect to see a selection of pottery, textiles, Japanese paper, and lacquerware from all over the country. During the run of the exhibition, a series of workshops and demonstrations are scheduled to take place. These will offer the public a chance to learn more about the skill that goes into producing Takatori ware incense burners, the precision required to paint Arita ware ceramic plates, and the level of detail needed to decorate Hakata dolls.
