Sagemon are hanging ornaments unique to the Yanagawa region. These fabric dolls of rabbits, chicks and cranes contain the wishes of happiness and health by mothers, grandmothers, and relatives. Used in the hina matsuri (doll festival), it is customary whenever a girl is born to celebrate grandiosity with colorful “Sagemon” along with hinadan, wishing for healthy growth of the child during the first festival. Recommended is the Ohina-sama Water Parade on Mar.15 with young girls dressed in bright kimono riding on river boats.
