Hakata Motsunabe Yamanaka

Just a five-minute walk from Hakata Station Chikushi Exit, Fukuoka’s popular motsunabe (hotpot with offal, tripe, and veggies) specialty restaurant Yamanaka opened its third location on December 4th. Yamanaka was founded in Ohashi, Minami-ku, in 1984 distinguishes itself from others with its miso-flavored broth in contrast to the more commonly found soy sauce-flavored. After humble beginnings, they opened a much larger second spot above the Sunny Supermarket in Akasaka in 2007 with over 200 seats. Even at that scale, reservations in advance are required. The new and spacious Hakata location sports a brighter interior with a mix of Asian and European touches, while the menu and flavors remain untouched. The slightly sweet milky miso milk and Kyushu-style motsu with plenty of vegetables and garlic are addictive!
