Hyakushiki

“It’s fun and delicious”, rave the locals, and since Hyakushiki opened, some say the flow of people along Kokutai-doro has changed. From the counter, you can watch the chefs cooking with authority. Sit back and enjoy the mesmerizing performance as the flames from the warayaki (food seared in straw) leap into the air. But don’t forget to order! The menu features a range of tossed, grilled and fried dishes made with select Kyushu-grown produce. No matter what you choose, it’s all delicious. Popular items include the sea urchin wrapped in Kuroge Wagyu beef sashimi and the ice-chilled crunchy green pepper which is dipped in a mixture of minced meat and miso paste. The drink menu includes a good selection of seasonal sakes and natural wines, which keeps patrons coming back to sample new and different flavors. Also, if you serve your own drinks from the counter in the back, you will receive a ¥50 discount. Just remember to call and reserve a seat before you head out.
