Not far from the shinkansen gate at Hakata Station, you can enjoy a sip of sake in the morning or night at Sumiyoshi Shuhan’s standing bar. Sumiyoshi Shuhan is a specialty liquor shop that handles a wide variety of sake and shochu from all over Kyushu. Second generation owner Takeyasu Shojima uses his own system to divide sake into two styles, the fresher tasting “Modern” and the more mature “Classic”, so even sake newbies can find the right bottle for their needs. Use the playing card tickets to keep track of your bill, and maybe even take a bottle home as a souvenir.
