March 2014 Fukuoka Now

The warm spring weather encouraged FN to take two trips this month! The first is a short hike at Genko Borui in Imazu. Just minutes from Tenjin, this walking course is full of history and includes a beautiful panorama view of the bay from atop Bishamon-yama. Next, we take off to nearby Karatsu City and share some of the historic, cultural and natural sites the city has to offer, including the recently opened and highly recommended Kyushu Olle Karatsu Course. Meanwhile this month, we check out Fukuoka’s new Owl Cafe in Hakata, taste authentic Cambodian fare at “Sabaina” in Jonan-ku, and take a lap around “Hakata’s kitchen” – Yanagibashi Market, where you’ll find Fukuoka’s freshest fish, vegetables, meat and other surprising local produce. We also meet NYC chef Kyle Ricks, and chat to him about his Nakasu restaurant “Serre”. You can win a four-course meal for two at Serre, cooked by Kyle and valued at ¥10,000 (beverages not included). Enter: fukuoka-now.com/serre-contest. Extra! Don’t forget to check out the Fukuoka Now Sakura & Hanami Guide – updated for 2014 and with new content added to help you get the most out of cherry blossom season in Fukuoka!
