Asahi Breweries Announces New Plant to be Built in Tosu City, Saga Prefecture

Major beer company Asahi Group Holdings, Ltd. has announced that it will build a new factory in Tosu City, Saga Prefecture, as a relocation site for its Hakata Factory, which will cease operations in three years. Asahi Group Holdings’ Hakata Plant, located in Hakata Ward, Fukuoka City, which began operations in 1921, has mainly produced beer, but due to the so-called “shift away from beer” among consumers, the company plans to build a new plant to produce other alcoholic beverages and soft drinks. The Hakata Plant will cease operations at the end of 2025, three years from now. The company says it chose Tosu City because it is an ideal location for supplying products to the entire Kyushu region in terms of transportation access. On the other hand, the company plans to sell the site of the former Hakata Plant and has not yet decided on the buyer or how it will be utilized. Approximately 120 employees will continue to be employed at the new plant. Source: NHK
