Best Denki Has First Loss in Three Years

Fukuoka City-based Best Denki posted a net loss of 1.316 billion yen for the interim period ended in August, the company’s first loss in three years. Year-on-year sales fell for the fifth straight year to 103.086 billion yen, a 31.4% drop, while current profit plunged by 97.1% to 112.0 billion yen. The performance was attributed to the end of the eco-point system for consumer electronics purchases, and the end of the demand cycle for new TVs with the introduction of digital terrestrial broadcasting.
