Big Motor in Hot Water for Killing Street Trees

The city of Koga has revealed that soil samples taken from the front of a Big Motor used-car dealership contained a significantly higher concentration of weedkiller compared to nearby areas. A police report is being considered for submission. Koga city officials launched an investigation after noting dead street trees in front of the Big Motor’s local branch. The soil study conducted in early August revealed the presence of “glyphosate,” an active ingredient in weedkillers. The concentration detected in the soil in front of the dealership was as much as 20,000 micrograms, approximately 125 times higher than the surrounding soil. Big Motor has informed the city that they have been using weedkiller on the road south of the store more than once a month since the year before last. Based on these findings, the city is in talks with the police and considering filing a formal complaint. Source: NHK
