The East Building of Canal City Hakata in Fukuoka City will reopen in autumn 2026 after being closed since May 2023. Initially slated for redevelopment into a mixed-use complex combining retail and high-end residential units, the plan was suspended due to rising construction costs. Operator Fukuoka Jisho has instead decided to resume operations as a commercial facility while continuing to review long-term redevelopment options.
